Description
Villa Tripalo is a Secessionist building dating back to the 1920s, situated in a quiet corner less than 100 metres from the main square (Pijaca) in Sinj, occupying a site covering more than 4,000 m². Restoration work on the villa began in 2007, following conservation and restoration research, with the primary aim of reproducing the original appearance of the villa as far as possible, both externally and internally, during the renovation work. With the help of builders and restorers licensed by the Ministry of Culture, the villa has been restored and transformed into a building worthy of visitors to Dalmatia of refined taste. The villa is a memorial to the Croatian politician Ante Miko Tripalo, the leader of the “Croatian Spring” movement, whose bust stands at the entrance.
Villa Tripalo is a protected cultural monument (ruling no. 17/3-1997, dated 8 August 1997, issued by the Conservation Institute for Dalmatia in Split and entered in the Registry of Immoveable Cultural Monuments of the Regional Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Split, reg. no. 1430). It has the status of a cultural good.
The spacious park is walled, and the entrance to the house is on the north side, through a gateway fitted with original, wrought iron gates. The roof has been restored to its original condition and the façade renewed according to the original, in terms of both the colour and quality of the plaster used, and the decorations. The east porch has a typical double-winged staircase and two balconies with decorative concrete balustrades. These balustrades and the glazed veranda on the south-west side of the building give the villa its country house character.
All interior spaces were originally painted with geometric and vegetable patterns, which were completely rehabilitated during the restoration research, so it was possible to reconstruct them during the renovation of the house, which largely restored the original appearance of the interior.
Villa Tripalo is characterized by stylish carpentry, and the exterior and interior doors stand out, equipped with brass fittings and decorated with carvings and cassette fields in the Art Nouveau style. All the wrought-iron elements on the house are original, which are equipped with external doors and windows in the basement of the house. The villa is equipped with original antique furniture, as well as well-made furniture in the Baroque and Empire style, complemented by carefully selected draperies. The final note of the interior decoration is given by carefully selected stylish dishes and lighting. Selected works of art by Croatian eminent painters and sculptors give special value to the house.
Villa Tripalo is a high ground floor house with a basement and has 175 square meters on each level. The original disposition of the house established a central corridor in the east-west direction, which connects the porch on the east with a glazed veranda on the west. North and south of the hallway are 3 comfortable rooms, today equipped with their own dressing rooms and bathrooms, and the living room occupies a representative place in the southwest of the house.
Distinguished guests of this Art Nouveau villa will enjoy all the comforts of modern times such as air conditioning in all rooms, satellite TV in the lounge and rooms, home theater, coffee machine and many other devices and technical details, and there is a fully equipped kitchen and study . In the basement there is a sauna, gym, massage room, billiard room, and the most important part is the wine shop which is located in the former secret basement room.
In the northern part of the garden, a gazebo for small animals has been reconstructed, and the auxiliary building, originally a farm house where garden tools were kept, now houses a comfortable apartment and a swimming pool with all the accompanying facilities.
Little is known about Zagora, and there is a lot of prejudice. It has been considered irrelevant for centuries, and it should be presented in all its splendor - from the valuable heritage that testifies to the drama of this area to the magnificent diversity of untouched nature. The mountains of Zagora are a great terrain for cycling, mountaineering, free climbing, hiking and long walks; fast rivers are suitable for rafting, canyoning and kayaking; larger lakes can be enjoyed by rowers, and the fields and forests are a real oasis for horse riders.
Zagora is simply a paradise for hedonists, both in terms of nature, activities and sights, and in terms of gastronomy. The Sinj Arambasici, along with the knightly game Alka, are on the list of protected intangible Croatian cultural assets. There are meat and vegetable dishes on the stove - under the baking lid, Dalmatian prosciutto, cheese, soparnik, bikla, the inevitable wine, and along rivers and lakes frogs, trout, crabs and a variety of traditional desserts that sweeten the bitter life.
