Description
Šibenik is located 60 kilometers north west of Split, it is one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic sea. Also known as the Town of Krešimir, since first written documents of Šibenik appear in grants of King Petra Krešimir in 1066. In 1166 Šibenik received the status of a city. In the 15th century Šibenik was sold to the Republic of Venice as part of Dalmatia, in the 17th century was under occupation of Ottoman Empire and in the 18th century came under the rule of the Habsburg Monarchy.
In the 19th century, while under Yugoslavia, factories started opening which led to economic progress. All of that vanished in 90s during the war, after the war ended Šibenik turned its attention to tourism. Constant progress is made regarding tourism to this day, and Šibenik became one of the most interesting tourist destinations on the Adriatic sea.
